Bengaluru, November 3: Karnataka has announced investment plans worth ₹700 crore from space technology company Astrobase and life sciences major Bayer, with the projects expected to generate approximately 1,470 jobs.
Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil shared the details on Tuesday after discussions with senior representatives of both companies in Bengaluru. The announcements cover rocket-engine manufacturing and a new corporate capability centre.
Astrobase plans to invest ₹500 crore in a manufacturing facility at Adinarayana Hosahalli Industrial Area in Bengaluru Rural district. Spread across 10 acres, the proposed unit would have the capacity to manufacture 40 rocket engines annually.
According to the minister, the Astrobase project is expected to generate more than 1,250 jobs. The Bengaluru-based company is developing launch vehicles, reusable space systems and rocket propulsion technology, drawing on a team that includes former ISRO professionals.
Bayer’s proposed ₹200 crore investment will support a Global Capability Centre in Bengaluru. The centre is expected to create around 220 jobs, adding to the company’s existing presence in Karnataka.
Patil said discussions with Bayer’s leadership during his recent visit to Amsterdam helped advance the proposal. The company aims to hold the groundbreaking ceremony before the Global Investors Meet scheduled for April 2027 and begin operations as early as possible.
Bayer already has a service and innovation hub in Bengaluru and a crop research centre in Chamarajanagar.
The investment and employment figures represent announced plans. Actual spending, recruitment and operational timelines will depend on implementation as the companies develop their respective facilities in Karnataka.
