Bengaluru, November 3: The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has agreed to reduce Nandini curd prices by ₹2 per litre following a suggestion from Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, offering partial relief after the recent dairy price increase.
Speaking to reporters on November 2, Shivakumar said he had asked KMF representatives to lower curd prices during a meeting. According to his statement, the federation accepted the suggestion.
The announcement follows criticism from consumers and hoteliers after revised Nandini prices took effect on November 1. The price of curd had increased from ₹54 to ₹68 per litre, adding ₹14 to the earlier rate.
A ₹2 reduction would bring the price to ₹66 per litre. This would still leave curd ₹12 costlier than before the November revision, making the proposed relief a partial rollback of the increase.
The reports reviewed did not specify a confirmed implementation date for the reduced rate. Consumers should check the latest KMF notification and printed packet prices before assuming the revised amount applies.
While seeking a reduction in curd prices, Shivakumar defended the milk price revision. He said differences between milk variants were linked to fat content and maintained that higher prices would benefit around 11 lakh farmer families.
The dairy price increase has also affected Bengaluru’s food businesses. Some hotels have raised prices of tea, coffee and milk beverages by ₹2 to ₹3, according to local reporting.
The announced curd reduction addresses part of the public criticism, while households and businesses continue to face the impact of higher dairy costs.
