Bengaluru, November 4: Passengers using Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses will face higher ticket prices from midnight following Karnataka’s announcement of a fare revision across its four government transport corporations.
The increase covers BMTC, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation. Revised charges vary depending on the service category and distance travelled.
Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh attributed the decision to rising expenditure on diesel, employee salaries, allowances and vehicle maintenance. He said financial difficulties faced by the corporations had made a revision necessary.
According to reports, the average increase for BMTC services is approximately 33 to 35 per cent, while the other three corporations face an average revision of around 23 per cent.
Passengers on air-conditioned Vajra and Vayu Vajra airport buses will also pay revised fares. The change means commuters purchasing tickets for regular journeys will need to account for higher transport expenses.
Women eligible for free travel under Karnataka’s Shakti scheme will continue receiving that benefit on covered non-air-conditioned government buses.
The announcement brings changes to both urban commuting and travel between cities. Passengers should check the applicable fare for their route and service when purchasing tickets after the revision takes effect.
