Ballari, November 4: Fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles have triggered protests in Ballari, with demonstrators demanding tighter controls on tipper trucks travelling through the city.

According to a local report published on November 4, three people died in separate accidents in the Guggarahatti, Eidgah Maidan and Radio Park areas within a few days.

Former minister B. Shriramulu and former MLA G. Somashekhara Reddy joined a demonstration on Bengaluru Road, calling for authorities to address the danger posed by heavy vehicle movement. Protesters demanded a daytime ban on tipper trucks within city limits and action against vehicles violating traffic rules.

The road blockade disrupted traffic, leaving vehicles queued along affected stretches. Demonstrators questioned the response of local authorities following the deaths and sought greater accountability for road safety.

A District Road Safety Committee meeting was scheduled for November 4 to examine the situation. Officials from relevant departments were directed to attend with information concerning traffic and safety issues.

Separately, district police announced stricter helmet enforcement from November 2 after reviewing recent accidents. Police linked the initiative to concerns about fatal head injuries among riders travelling without helmets.

Together, these developments have brought heavy vehicle regulation and rider protection into focus as Ballari confronts concerns about safety on its roads.
