Bengaluru, November 5: Bus travel is getting costlier across Karnataka after the state government announced a fare revision for all four state-run transport corporations on Wednesday. The increase covers Bengaluru’s BMTC city buses as well as services operated by KSRTC, NWKRTC and KKRTC, affecting both daily commutes and trips between towns and cities.
For Bengaluru commuters, the cheapest BMTC ticket rises from ₹6 to ₹10, while the highest fare on the revised scale increases from ₹35 to ₹45. On KSRTC services, the increase varies by fare stage, with tickets costing between ₹4 and ₹16 more. The increase for ordinary KSRTC buses is capped at ₹9, Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh said.
Suresh attributed the decision to higher diesel prices, rising staff costs and more expensive spare parts. He said the additional fare revenue was intended to ease financial pressure on the four corporations. The government announced the revised rates after a fare regulation committee reviewed the operators’ proposals and operating expenses.
The revision follows a 15% increase in January 2025, making it Karnataka’s second bus fare hike in less than two years. For a commuter who buys two minimum-fare BMTC tickets a day, the round trip will now cost ₹20, up from ₹12 before the latest fare revision.
