Koppal, November 5 — Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has commissioned a 300 MW solar power project in Karnataka’s Koppal district. The company developed the plant through its wholly owned subsidiary, TP Saurya, for the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), which will receive the electricity generated at the site.
Tata Power estimates that the plant will produce 810 million units of electricity annually, equivalent to 810 million kilowatt-hours. The facility uses solar trackers that adjust the angle of the panels as the sun moves across the sky. It also uses bifacial panels, which can generate electricity from sunlight reaching either side, including light reflected from the ground.
The company said 16 women professionals made up nearly 40% of the project’s site workforce. They worked in roles that included site engineering and management, contributing to technical work and coordinating teams during the project’s development.
With the Koppal plant online, TPREL said its utility-scale renewable energy portfolio has reached about 12 GW. Around 7.2 GW of that capacity is already operational, while close to 4.9 GW is at various stages of development. The operating portfolio includes both solar and wind projects, with solar accounting for the larger share.
